About Pledge of Allegiance Shirts

The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy and has been recited in classrooms, council meetings and ceremonies ever since. Congress recognized it formally in 1942, and the words under God were added in 1954. Many people can still say it from memory long after leaving school.

Shirts inspired by the Pledge are a way to carry its words with them. See also Constitution & Founding Documents, Flag Day and American Flag Shirts.
